Kirkby Stephen in October issue of BBC’s Countryfile Magazine

Kirkby Stephen Train Station

Kirkby Stephen train station is on the picturesque Settle-Carlisle Railway

Open this October’s issue of the BBC’s Countryfile Magazine  and past guests of Waitby School will recognise the iconic Smardale Gill viaduct splashed across a two-page profile of walking in Kirby Stephen.

For those who haven’t stayed with us yet, Smardale Gill is a short walk directly from Waitby and you can get there without having to use your car. The article is within the Great Railway Journeys feature and gives details of railway-related things to do and see around Kirkby Stephen, including the Settle-Carlisle Railway, Stainmore Railway and viaducts galore. If you buy this issue of the magazine, the section of OS map published within the article clearly shows just how close Waitby School is to the heart of all the attractions listed.

And if you visit the magazine’s website (click here) you’ll find full details of a magical walk through Grizedale forest, taking in world-famous outdoor sculptures, including the renowned Talking the wall for a walk by Andy Goldsworthy.
